Welcome Home Your New Fur-Baby!

Now that you have found the perfect luxury apartment in an up-and-coming neighborhood with close proximity to a variety of venues and offers pet-friendly amenities, you may be thinking about bringing home a new addition to your family. We’re talking about Smokey the kitten or Max the pup, of course!

Becoming a new pet owner is a big decision. When you bring home that cute little puppy with sweet puppy breath or the tiny yet adorable kitten, you are committing to being responsible for the life of the animal. This responsibility includes daily activities like watering, feeding, and exercise along with more sporadic things like trips to the groomers and regular trips to the vet for shots and checkups. If you are confident that you have the space, the time, and the desire to have a pet then you are probably ready.

Cats are relatively easy creatures because the breed of cat doesn’t play as large of a role in your decision as it does when selecting a dog. Picking the right pup requires research and consideration. Take time to look into the types of breeds you are interested in before committing to a single idea. Perhaps you love the way a certain breed looks, but prefer the temperament of a different breed. Certain breeds do well in apartment settings while others do not. Experts recommend the following breeds for apartment dwellers: English Bulldogs, French Bulldogs, Shih Tzu, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and Pugs. Once you have decided the best breed for you, you can start looking at your local shelter or online adoptions pages on social media.

Welcoming a new pet into your space requires a bit of planning. We recommend pet-proofing your apartment the same way you would if your niece/nephew were coming over. Puppies are clumsy and can be irritable just like a toddler so make sure they have plenty to chew on that isn’t your furniture or clothes.

Finally, before bringing your new fur-baby home, be sure you have read about puppy behavior and how to properly train them. Some treats and types of toys benefit different breeds just like training techniques will vary from animal to animal.

Bring home your new pup to our pet-friendly apartments in Channelside. We love pets whether dogs or cats! Enjoy this new adventure!
